Organizing Ninja Series: What’s your Personality?

I’ve found that not everybody is what I like to call a “folded color coded sock drawer.” Some people when they put things away would rather throw them into a drawer or a box and forget about them. I mean after all, they are technically “put away”, right?

Other people, start out organized but once stress or busyness encourages them to leave their clothes on the floor until tomorrow, tomorrow becomes stretched out over multitudes of tomorrows until the pile of clothes just seem too overwhelming to handle.

Other people are bothered by their mess but because they don't have an efficient way of putting it away, they leave it until they can work something out. Eventually, that place becomes THE place it stays.

Lets call these organizational personalities... the “disciplined sock color coder”,  the “throw n and put away”, the “tomorrow dreamer”, and “the not until its perfect”.

These are only a few of the combinations one can have. The key is becoming self aware of where your thoughts go when faced with a mess. Then, set a new realistic goal for yourself. And follow it up with practicing until it becomes a habit. (It takes 21 days to create a new habit- see more on building good habits in "Spring Cleaning for the Mind"

I’ve created a few questions to get you started in developing your organizing personality:
  1. What is your current organizational strategy?
  2. What problem would you like to fix in your room, closet, desk, etc?
  3. When faced with a mess, how do you usually handle it?
  4. If you could make one realistic change to your room, closet, desk etc.. what would it be?
